Why do people sexually assault others?

Much to popular belief, sexual assault is not about offenders obtaining pleasure from such acts, but it about dominating over another person, asserting power and taking control.  In some cases, offenders have been victims of sexual assault, or other forms of abuse such as physical or emotional, and they are just mimicking the learnt behaviour that was inflected onto them.  However, just because a person is a survivor of sexual assault, does not mean that they will become a perpetrator themselves.  Even if the offender was a victim themselves, it does not justify their actions; sexual assault is a crime.  It is not the fault of the victim.
